IAPP Westin Scholar Book Award 2023

We are thrilled to announce that one of our outstanding students, Mr. Demirtas Fatih, has been awarded the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Westin Scholar Book Award for the academic year 2022-23.


The IAPP Westin Scholar Book Award is a highly respected accolade that recognizes exceptional talent and achievement in the field of privacy and data protection. This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of Fatih, who has demonstrated exceptional skills and knowledge in this important area. We are immensely proud of him and his accomplishments.

Eddid Financial Scholarship (FinTech) 2022-23

Congratulations to our student, Zhu Xuanchen, who received the "Eddid Financial Scholarship (FinTech)".

To foster more talent in the financial industry, Eddid Financial established the "Eddid Financial Scholarship (FinTech)" in the 2022-23 academic year. One MScFin (FTFA) student who achieved excellent and outstanding academic performance will receive the award, which includes a scholarship of HK$10,000.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Mr. Ricky Yeung, COO of Eddid Financial, for presenting the award to our student during the Scholarship and Financial Aid Donor Appreciation Reception 2022-23.

Digital Readiness Award at QS-Wharton Reimagine Education Awards 2022

We are delighted to announce that the MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) Programme has received a Bronze Award at the QS-Wharton Reimagine Education Awards 2022 under the category of Digital Readiness Award. Reimagine Education is a global conference and competition, open to educational innovators from all around the world. The Digital Readiness Award was given to the company or institution that offered the best program or approach to supporting digital readiness now and in the future.

Diamond Award in IFTA Honorary FinTech Education & Talent Development Awards

The programme has received the “Diamond Award” in Honorary FinTech Education & Talent Development category from the IFTA FinTech and Innovation Awards 2021/2022. The award is to recognizing corporates, start-ups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), non-profit organisations (NPOs) such as schools, professional bodies, charities, social enterprises, etc, as well as individuals in providing public FinTech education to the community.
The award ceremony was held on 29 September 2022. Prof. Aris Stouraitis, Programme Director, and Ms Queenie Lee, Associate Programme Director, represented the programme to receive the award during the ceremony.

IAPP Westin Scholar Book Award 2022

The MScFin (FTFA) programmes is happy to announce that Ms Jolly CHAN Wing Yan has received the IAPP Westin Scholar Book Award 2022. The Award is to honor the top student’s achievement for the best individual assignment submitted for the Cybersecurity, Privacy and RegTech class.

“It's my honor to receive the IAPP Westin Scholar Book Award from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). It means so much to me. I would like to recognize my school, Hong Kong Baptist University, on whom my success rides. I owe my success to the rich learning environment at HKBU and all my professors who were there to guide me on my path. Without the faculty and staff's support and resources, I am confident I could not have flourished as I did. It was gratifying to learn much in the lecture classes through these rough times with a global pandemic. I am grateful for being recognized, and I intend to live up to the level of success this award demands. Starting my career at HKBU was the best choice I've made. Sincerely and humbly, I want to say thank you to the IAPP for believing and empowering young students to follow their passion and dreams.” Ms Jolly CHAN Wing Yan said.

MScFin (FTFA) graduate and business students made full ‘Star in the Making’ list in IFTA FinTech Achievement Awards

Graduate from MScFin (FTFA) programme and two students from the HKBU School of Business have been named ‘Star in the Making’ award at the IFTA FinTech and Innovator Awards 2021/2022. The Award presentation ceremony will be conducted in September 2022.

The ‘Star in the Making’ award recognises students for innovative projects or ideas that could positively transform the FinTech industry. Mathias AWUNI (MScFTFA, 2021), Kar Yan YEUNG (MScCGC, 2021) and Hejian MA (BBA in ISEM/FINE, Year 4) were awarded for their respective project that challenges the status quo of different industries. They are the only awardees this year making it to the list.

All three awardees’ projects have one common goal – to solve real-world problems harnessing their innovations and the advancement of technology. Awuni built Coucou Connect to contribute to financial inclusion among low-income earners, empowering them to save and build credit worthiness, which will result in a win-win for both financial service providers and users. Yeung’s project, Project COLLAB, is a powerful all-in-one platform digitising and accelerating listed document production processes that will simplify the traditional financial printing. Ma’s project, Quant Break focuses on FinTech education services, providing interactive solutions for users to learn more about and join the FinTech industry. The students and graduates would like to express their sincere gratitude to MSc Finance (Financial Technology and Financial Analytics) Program for their nomination and sponsorship and Ms Queenie Lee, Lecturer of Department of Finance and Decision Sciences, for her coaching.

Themed “Two Worlds, One Goal: The Virtualisation of Reality” this year, the Awards, now in its fourth year, recognise the important nuances of the parallel physical and virtual worlds, as well as, the role that corporations and individuals play in their development within the economy.

“SlowMist Cybersecurity Award” 2021-22

SlowMist Technology offers "SlowMist Cybersecurity Award" for the students of MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) since 2020-21 academic year. The award includes a cash prize of USD 2,000. This year, Ms CHAN Wing Yan Jolly conducted the best individual assignment for “FIN7900 Cybersecurity, Privacy and RegTech” and obtained the award.

"Thank you for awarding me the SlowMist Cybersecurity Award. I am honored to receive this award. It means so much to me. I am thankful for my professor, Mr. Brian Yap, who was there to guide me on my path. It was an honor to be a part of your class. I am also grateful to be part of the HKBU. It was gratifying to learn a lot in this cybersecurity class through these rough times with a global pandemic. Starting my career at HKBU was the best choice I’ve made." Ms CHAN Wing Yan Jolly said.

SlowMist Technology is a company focused on blockchain ecological security and also a top international blockchain security company, serving many well-known projects, and was in the first batch of domestic units that was listed in the “2018 China Blockchain Industry White Paper” by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

HKBU BBA graduate named “Star in the Making” in IFTA FinTech Achievement Awards

Congratulations to David K.T. Ho (BBA Entrepreneurship and Finance, 2020). Supported by the program, he was honoured with the ‘Star in the Making’ award by the Institute of Financial Technologists of Asia (IFTA) in the FinTech Achievement Awards 2020. He was one of the only two awardees in the category this year.

The ‘Star in the Making’ award recognizes students for innovative projects or ideas that could positively transform the FinTech industry. In 2019, Ho teamed up with two other HKBU business graduates to come up with the FOODCHAIN idea to offer financing solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises, a much-needed service, especially during the pandemic.
