Prof. Christos Cabolis’ Valuable Insights to MScFin (FTFA) Students

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Christos Cabolis, Adjunct Professor of Economics and Competitiveness and Chief Economist and Head of Operations at IMD World Competitiveness Center, for conducting a seminar for our master's class on 19 May 2023. Prof. Cabolis shared his vast knowledge and experience in Hong Kong and China in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, which was highly insightful and informative.

The seminar was an excellent opportunity for our students to learn from a seasoned professional in the world competitiveness ranking. Prof. Cabolis provided real-world examples and practical advice, which stimulated critical thinking and intellectual curiosity among our students.

The seminar was a resounding success, thanks to Prof. Cabolis 's invaluable insights and expertise. It was an inspiring and informative experience for our students, and we are immensely grateful for Prof. Cabolis 's contribution to our programme.

Once again, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof. Cabolis for taking the time to conduct the seminar and share his insights with our master's class. We hope to welcome him back to our programme in the future.

FinTech Seminar: Portfolio Management and Market Outlook

Thanks to Dr. Ana Armstrong to deliver the seminar “Portfolio Management and Market Outlook” for our master’s students on 9 May 2023. Dr. Armstrong is an Advisory Board Member of the Finance Department of Imperial College London and our MScFin (FTFA) Programme. She is also a Founder and CEO of Armstrong Investment Managers LLP. During the seminar, Dr. Armstrong shared her insights and professional experience in portfolio management, cryptopia, structured securities, etc… with our students and faculty members. We enjoyed the seminar very much.

Visit the OSL Digitial Securities

Our FinTech students visited the OSL on 5 May 2023. During the visit, a seminar and discussion on “Pursuing a Career in the Financial Services Industry” was conducted by Ms. Daisy Lo, Director – Market Development of Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute. Mr. Davin Wu, Chief Financial Officer of OSL, also shared his views on “Capturing the Future of Digital Assets” with our students during the visit.

The Hong Kong Money Month (HKMM) 2023, a territory-wide financial education campaign led by the Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC), aims to:
• Promote digital financial literacy among the public and help people acquire the skills and know-how to effectively harness digital facilities to manage their finances.
• Help the public understand the benefits and risks of using digital financial products and services; and remind them to be vigilant about online financial scams.
• Encourage the public to keep a lookout for new investment opportunities and market trends arising from digital transformation.
• Raise awareness of the more commonplace digital-based financial solutions and encourage usage of the IFEC Money Tracker App and a suite of free online financial tools.

Digital Readiness Award at QS-Wharton Reimagine Education Awards 2022

We are delighted to announce that the MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) Programme has received a Bronze Award at the QS-Wharton Reimagine Education Awards 2022 under the category of Digital Readiness Award. Reimagine Education is a global conference and competition, open to educational innovators from all around the world. The Digital Readiness Award was given to the company or institution that offered the best program or approach to supporting digital readiness now and in the future.

IFTA FinTech and Innovation Awards 2021/2022 HKBU Campus Sharing

Thank you very much to IFTA for organizing the IFTA FinTech and Innovation Awards Campus Sharing on HKBU campus for our students. We are thankful that Mr. Paul Pong, Chairman of IFTA, took time out of his busy schedule to join the event and deliver an opening speech to our students. Special thanks to the awardees, Ms Rebecca Lim, Founder and CEO of AutoML Capital, Mr. Andre Leung, Co-founder & CEO of Aereve Co. Ltd., and Mr. Anderson Woo, CEO of Artzioneer and TamJai SamGor Souper Hero NET Project Representative, for sharing their experience and insights to our students. Our students have learned a lot from them.

Eddid Financial Scholarship (FinTech)

We are delighted to have Eddid Financial Holding Limited sponsoring the “Eddid Financial Scholarship (FinTech)” for the MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) programme in the 2022-23 academic year. One MScFin (FTFA) student who achieved excellent and outstanding academic performance will be awarded the scholarship of HK$10,000.

“SlowMist Cybersecurity Award” to MSc in Finance (Fintech and Financial Analytics) students

Thanks to SlowMist for the continuous offering of the “SlowMist Cybersecriy Award” to the MSc in Finance (Fintech and Financial Analytics) students in AY 2022-2023 and AY 2023-2024. SlowMist has been sponsoring the programme since 2020. Student(s) who conduct the best individual assignment for “FIN7900 Cybersecurity, Privacy and RegTech” will obtain the award.

SlowMist is a blockchain security firm established in January 2018. The firm was started by a team with over ten years of network security experience to become a global force. Their goal is to make the blockchain ecosystem as secure as possible for everyone.

Diamond Award in IFTA Honorary FinTech Education & Talent Development Awards

The programme has received the “Diamond Award” in Honorary FinTech Education & Talent Development category from the IFTA FinTech and Innovation Awards 2021/2022. The award is to recognizing corporates, start-ups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), non-profit organisations (NPOs) such as schools, professional bodies, charities, social enterprises, etc, as well as individuals in providing public FinTech education to the community.
The award ceremony was held on 29 September 2022. Prof. Aris Stouraitis, Programme Director, and Ms Queenie Lee, Associate Programme Director, represented the programme to receive the award during the ceremony.
